JoAnn Verburg
JoAnn Verburg is a photographer based out of St. Paul, Minnesota and Spoleto, Italy. She was born in 1950 and received a BA in Sociology from Ohio Wesleyan University and an MFA in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her photographs are often exhibited in diptychs or triptychs and often combines soft lighting, varied focus, and thoughtful compositions. For over 20 years she has returned to Spoleto, Italy with her husband, poet Jim Moore. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1986, as well as multiple artist fellowships from the Bush Foundation (1983, 1993) and the McKnight Foundation (1994, 2004). She also received a Rockefeller Foundation Residency at the Bellagio Conference and Study Center, Bellagio, Italy in 1998. She has also taught at both Yale University and the Minneapolis College of Art. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across the US and abroad, and her work has been published in numerous monographs.
