Josephine Baker
Josephine Baker was born in 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri. The epitome of her career, which spans dance, music, and acting, occurred largely in France. In 1937, Baker renounced her American citizenship to live and work in France. She is credited as being the first African American female to star in a major motion picture in addition to her notable contribution to the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. Her film credits include "La Sirène des tropiques", "Zouzou", and "Princesse Tam Tam". She died in 1975.
